What is CBD?
Cannabidiol (CBD) is a Phyto cannabinoid discovered in 1940. It is one of 113 identified cannabinoids in cannabis plants and accounts for up to 40% of the plant's extract. As of 2019, clinical research on CBD included studies of anxiety, cognition, movement disorders, and pain, but there is, as yet, insufficient high quality evidence to prove it is effective for these conditions.
Cannabidiol can be taken into the body in multiple ways, including by inhalation of cannabis smoke or vapor, as an aerosol spray into the cheek, and by mouth. It may be supplied as CBD oil containing only CBD as the active ingredient (excluding tetrahydrocannabinol [THC] or terpenes), CBD-dominant hemp extract oil, capsules, dried cannabis, or prescription liquid solution. CBD does not have the same psychoactivity as THC, and may change the effects of THC on the body if both are present. As of 2018, the mechanism of action for its biological effects has not been determined.
Why is it important to know the source of the hemp in my CBD products?
Hemp is a great plant for cleaning up the environment in which it grows. It will grow on even polluted soil, removing pathogens and storing them in the leaves and stem – not something you want if it is being used in a retail product! That is why we use only the best quality hemp-derived CBD where the hemp can be traced easily to licenced farms in the USA.
I am confused about labelling – how do I know whether what I’m buying is value for money?
CBD products are relatively new to the mass market and there is a lot of confusion caused by poor labelling. Some products indicate on the label or even in the brand name that they contain CBD, but when you look in the ingredients list, the product contains hemp oil (or hemp seed oil) – which is not the same as CBD, even though it comes from the cannabis plant. Some products contain so little CBD that they are unlikely to have any beneficial effect, despite their price tag. A bit of a minefield? Yes, but we're committed to transparency and value for money on all counts. You'll find lab certificates for all our products with the CBD content clearly quoted, so that you can buy with confidence.

How do I know whether these CBD products will work for me?
We are not allowed to make any medical claims for CBD products. Whilst we believe there are many benefits to be had from use of well sourced, top quality CBD products, due to the historical illegal status of cannabis in its pure form, there has been insufficient formal medical research and clinical trials to test the evidence. We advise all customers to research CBD themselves and to consult your health advisers and medical practitioners before taking any of these products.
